Solihull Trophy - 2010
Solihull Speakers Club and Save the Children
Members of Solihull Speakers Club decided they wanted to do something to help victims of the Haiti earthquake. So when they organised an inter-club contest for the Solihull Trophy they gave the profits to Save the Children. Three teams competed in the contest which had as its theme Three Men in a Boat. The President of Solihull Speakers Club, Claire Laland, said ‘We were delighted to raise £160 for Save the Children from a raffle and entrance money. I hope this event will be the first of many. We were grateful to members of Save the Children who came along and to Nigel Briggs, Volunteer Vision Project Director, who spoke about the work of Save the Children.’ Solihull Speakers Club meets fortnightly in the Downing Hall, Knowle and information can be found on the web site www.solihullspeakers.co.uk
Each of the teams consisted of a Chairman and 3 speakers who spoke on ‘Three’, ‘Men’ and ‘Boat’. The Solihull team was comprised of Mary Smith (Chairman) and our speakers George Morris, Alison Bennett and John Martin. All the speeches were of a very high quality and were commended by the Chief Judge, Brian Micklethwaite.
