Club Evaluation Contest - 2009
This year's Evaluation Contest was won by Vanessa Pritchard with runner-up Alison Bennett. Both have had experience of evaluating speakers within the Club. It is a challenging task and part of the skill is the balance between encouraging the speaker's strengths against pointing out aspects which could be improved.
The person delivering the speech itself must come from another Club. This year that was Zafar Majid, Sans Souci Club. With 6 contestants taking part, we hope that Zafar benefited from listening to 6 different evaluations instead of the usual one.
The Club encourages all members to take part whether they have had previous experience or not. Two relatively new members took up the challenge, gave valuable evaluations and said they gained a great deal in doing so.
Judges were Peter Smith (Chairman), Cliff Hatton and Anne Hewitt. Both Cliff and Anne used to be members of our Club and it was great to see them again.
This is a National contest. Vanessa will now compete against the four other clubs in the next round, the Area Evaluation Contest. If she wins that, she will compete at District level and, with skill and luck, in the National Finals in April.
